Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu @ BTC

Here at BTC we’ve got a BJJ class for everyone; beginner or advanced, Gi or No-Gi, we’re here to learn and train!

BTC’s No-Gi class is a groundwork class which helps students to learn the grappling techniques a mixed martial artist might use in a competitive setting. The four main ways that a gi and no-gi grappling class differ are in speed, technique, tournament rules and a lack of uniform. Gi students utilize their gi in combat while, in no-gi classes, students will be taught how to move effectively without the use of the traditional garment.

Learning the fundamentals of any martial art is essential for progression, but in BJJ it is most certainly important as it is a sport reliant on detail. The word ‘Gi’ is derived from the Japanese word ‘keikogi’, meaning training uniform. The gi tends to present different problems and dangers from no-gi grappling. It teaches students the art of BJJ through a technical approach aided with drilling, practice and rolling. Gi BJJ is open to all levels and always goes back to basics making it beneficial for any belt level to shake off bad habits or just refresh their memory. Not ready for a BJJ class just yet? No worries, we have a specific class just for beginners!
